Comment for Sarah

Thanks to woman in the past help us to represent the woman we are now (:

Comment for Cris

I agree with you Cris and we should make them proud :)

The Chicken Nugget

What is the "nugget of truth" that you will take away from A Room of One's Own? Don't just repeat Woolf's thesis statement. Think about your own life and experiences and go from there. Explain why you will take that nugget with you.

The nugget of truth for me is speaking with the reality and not living in a fantasy were everything is so perfect. it takes us to be our own self and express our emotions with not hiding it.With the white light of truth makes us to not have anger of why things happen but with why were put obstacles so we can show that we are strong and not let us destroy us.

The Nugget of Truth

the nugget of truth that i will take with me is that we shouldnt be mad at the way that things turn out instead we should try to make the best of it. We shouldn't let the angel in the house prevent us from doing as we want instead we should show the ange that we are capable of doing want we want. Not to give up if the women before us we shouldn't either we should try our best to succeed and make the next generation proud as well.

Nuggets!!!! :D

Well I think the nugget of truth that I'll take with me is thaty anything and everything is possible and that we shouldn't give up even if we encounter obstacles that seem hard to overcxome we should be grateful for the oppurtunities that we are now offered and tkae advantage of them and remember all the struggles women before us went through to help us to were we are now

blah

What is the "nugget of truth" that you will take away from A Room of One's Own? Don't just repeat Woolf's thesis statement. Think about your own life and experiences and go from there. Explain why you will take that nugget with you.

Using the word nugget is just weird so the lesson I'm gona take from A Room of One's Own is that writing/living/thinking/etc in the white light of truth is better than doing all of that in the red light of emotion. I'm taking this lesson with me because I have a lot of anger built up inside and I'm always in the red light of emotion. So what Virginia Woolf said about the white light of truth made me think and start going in that direction instead of the other.

.

The nugget of truth that I will take is not to let criticizim get in the way of being successful. Also not letting obsicals take over. I know that if I want to do something I'll do it. I can take down obsticals like everyone else.when someone wants to be successful in life nothIng can stop the . And to tMe advantage of what we can do.

Hmm the "nugget of truth"

What is the "nugget of truth" that you will take away from A Room of One's Own? Don't just repeat Woolf's thesis statement. Think about your own life and experiences and go from there. Explain why you will take that nugget with you.

The "Nugget of Truth" That I will take from Woolf's Book A Room of One's Own, Is that you should always write in the white light of truth so you can actually get the fully truth out in you writing because if you write in the the red light of truth then it would be a whole bunch of lies that hurts people and don't want that to actually to happen. I will take this "Nugget of Truth" with me because when i am angry i tend to say things i don't mean and then later on i tend to regret what i say. So by taking what Woolf said will help me to write in the white light of truth.

Detras de un gran hombre, hay una gran mujer!

The nugget of truth that I took from Virginia Woolf is that we all need to have a little from both genders. Most of the men who write have some parts of women inside them. The woman also needs to have some parts of men. Both women and men are interdependent, and we become more interdependent when it comes to succeeding in life. There is a refrain in Spanish which goes, "Detras de un gran hombre, hay una gran mujer", which translates to "behind a great man, there is a great woman".

X marks the spot o:

The "nugget of truth" I will take with me from  A Room of One's Own is to write in the white light of truth. In order to fully understand what you're talking about and really make up your own mind and opinion you need to be able to look at situations in an unbiased way. Record the information, analyse it, take what YOU believe (and not what everyone else tells you to believe) and leave the rest behind. You need to able to detach yourself from criticism and chose the path that best suites you, even if that's the path no one has taken. That can make all the difference.

What will I take with me?

What is the "nugget of truth" that you will take away from A Room of One's Own? Don't just repeat Woolf's thesis statement. Think about your own life and experiences and go from there. Explain why you will take that nugget with you.

Well talking about nuggets got me hungry!! but Virginia Woolf does an excellent job at giving her reader something to take with after showing her reader what her main points were. The "nugget of truth" that I will take with me is that no matter where I go there will always be that angel in the house that will try and ruin the plans that I have for the future, Virginia Wolf is telling us as her reader that it doesn't matter if you have to kill the angel in the house in order to accomplish your dreams and that is exactly what I will do. Also if I want to become someone I have to learn how to speak and write with the white light of truth and never with the red light of emotion. Virginias short book is a great book that can give many young girls like myself a bunch of advice to take with and learn to be a better person, not just to be a bit of a feminist but to want to have the best in life as possible. Virginia Woolf's nugget is a very big life changing nugget that is going to hopefully help me in college so that I can find my little fish and maybe even point out when somebody is in the red light of emotion.

The Nugget of the Turth!

well lets see the "the nugget of the truth" for me would be that writers, poets etc. at the end of the day are important. Even though many of us, including myself, dont like english without these people we wouldn't have the books we have today or any piece of literature. The works of literature influence us and many of them have lessons. Also they relate to many of the things that happen around us. So i guess we should be grateful that we have writers and poets:)

"We are little Nuggets"

The "nugget of truth" that I will take from Virginia Woolf is that we are all capable of greatness. It is in us and we just have to find it. It will not be easy but we cannot just give up. Like for women writers in the past had obstacles but they did change something in the long run even if it was a very small thing. The "nugget of truth" that I found for myself is not to let any obstacle get in my way, it will not be easy but that I can do it. And maybe just maybe I can change something for future generations.

The nugget of truth for me would be that there is no better sex. One can not simply choose one gender over the other. Especially when it comes to writing, or any other form of art. You have to use techniques from both genders, or place yourself in the middle of it all.

i agree with woolf that all fiction does need to be based on some reality because then it would just be very confusing and not so understandable. Its needs to be based on stuff we know so we can understand it. I don't really agree on the white light of truth though maybe Austen was writing in the red light and was still able to write a good book. she wrote on what happened to her and sort of ranting on that she will do what she wants to do and that she doesn't care about what others say but it still turned out to be a good book.

What argument I agree with??

I agree with what Virginia Woolf said about some authors and the way they write. I believe that some do actually write with the white light of truth and others with the red light of emotion. That ia some thing very cleaver that she was able to notice so long ago. Also the fact that she mentioned that fiction should always be attached to some sort of reality. In my opinion this gives the story a way in which the reader can relate to, it is also very true that all fiction is all also related these are all some arguments that I agree with Virginia Woolf.

[INSERT CLEVER TITLE HERE]

Which parts of Virgnia Woolf's argument are most compelling to you? What do you agree with? Disagree with? Explain.
I can't really say which arguments are the ones that stick to me because its actually pretty hard to understand them in general. Even if I understand one of the arguments, majority of the time I agree. When she said, in the beginning of the book, that all we need is a money and a room of one's own, I think I remember people saying that they disagreed about the fact that you need money. I think she was right in a way, if she was trying to view things from a logical perspective. If she was then there are also several things that she left out. She would also need a place in which she can go to gather information and ideas, or "go fishing". yeah.
The parts that are the most compelling for me from the argument Woolf brings up is the fact that women were not given the same opportunity as men. Men had more opportunities to get an education, money and to write. The women were suppose to do what it was expected from them and not get adventures like men, ex: Shakespeare. The part stroke me the most because even though time has passed, we do get opportunities, but as much as men do

The truth!

I agree with the fact that writers write in either the red light of emotion or the white light of truth. Like that professor X guy, he doesn't agree with women writing and whatnot. He is stuck in the red light of emotion which is what the men in the time period were in. They did not see that women should write, they were stuck on the power and keeping women in the kitchen. The white light of truth is what I like about this because Virginia Woolf recognizes that we all have a part of us that holds the truth and we should all write about it to share the truth as a whole.

My mind went blank as soon as I read the question....

So, i don't like some of the feminist aspects of Woolf only because I feel like she takes extremes sometimes. Yes, men did not accept women as writers and only had few expectations of women that had nothing to do with knowledge. BUT do you really think that Shakespeare's sister would have killed herself? What she could have been successful because of the fact that her brother was only the most famous play writer of the time period? For all we know she could have been like Jane Austen or Virginia Woolf. We cannot underestimate the bravery of a woman, no matter what the time period is. The thing I do agree with Virginia Woolf on is that she believes in how amazing women can be as writers and that if you give them the space and time they can do even greater things that men have done.

New Format Blahhhh

Q:Which parts of Virgnia Woolf's argument are most compelling to you? What do you agree with? Disagree with? Explain.

A: The red light emotion is one of parts of Virgnia Woolf's argument that are compelling to me. Most of us well actually everyone uses red light emotion especially writers. Few people use the white light of truth and set apart all the anger they have towards someone or something. Woolf make us realize that we should find the truth instead of having the anger all inside of us.

"I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong." -Bertrand Russel

Like a sir Lady!

An argument that Virginia Woolf makes that i do not agree with is (maybe I'm not understanding this concept right) but the thing about fiction being attached to the reality and can only speak of reality seems kind of weird to me. If she means that writers can only right reality then who is going to come up with the unimaginable? People need to find something to look forward too like the flying cars and stuff.

What i most agree on is the fact that people need to write the truth. But then again what is the truth? The truth is different for all people so no one knows what is the truth. And now I sound all philosophical.

Here are some quotes I liked from the book. Enjoy!
  1. "'Wise men never say what they think of women' Wise men never say anything else apparently."
  2. " I need not hate men; he cannot hurt me. I need not flatter any man; he has nothing to give me"
  3. "Great bodies of people are never responsible for what they do"

Hmmm The Argument.....

Which parts of Virgnia Woolf's argument are most compelling to you? What do you agree with? Disagree with? Explain.

During the book the argument that is most compelling to me is when she starts to talk about how the professor had a red light emotion by the way he was describe in the book how he was so angry that he was holding back the truth. In her argument is that is is better to write in the white light of emotion so the truth can be set free and be brought the light. I totally agree with Virgnia Woolf because i personally think it is right to write in the white light of truth so that people can get there truth out and plus if you write in the red light then everything on the page will not be true and angry can go towards a certain person or group of people.

this new layout is confusing...

Which parts of Virgnia Woolf's argument are most compelling to you? What do you agree with? Disagree with? Explain.

The argument that is most compelling to me is that women need a room of their own to write in. I don't think that they need a small quiet room to write in because what are they going to write about? There's nothing going on in there. I think it's better that they write where there's distractions because that way, they can write about the world around them and what's going on. For example, Jane Austen wrote in the living room where it was busy all the time. Look at how popular Pride and Prejudice still is today. She wrote about what the people around her were doing. If she were to sit in a quiet room by herself, she probably write something like "Sitting in a room. Nothing is happening." That's boring. So I don't think you need a room of your own to write.

Virginia Woolf's

Woolf's argument that Bronte wrote with the red light of emotion and Austen wrote in the white light of truth. I though Austen wrote in the red light of emotion but seen Woolf's points comparing Bronte and Austen's writing I realize she was not. I agree with her points because Austen wrote with what she knew and saw in society and in the end of Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth does get married which is what society wanted but she married someone she loved. If she was writing with the red light of emotion she would have kept Elizabeth single and independent. Bronte in the other hand the man goes blind and the wife in the attic died the girl survives and happily ever after but with very bad consequences.

:p

she might need a good office, a good mind full of ideas, a good environment like a good neighbor hood thats quiet. maybe a garden to think and write outside. Family for support a staff like a editor. She cant have many distractions either because it can ruin the mind process.

-_-

Ummmmmmm... I guess some imagination. And some logic. You have to know how to get yourself out there as well as being able to yourself out there too. And nowadays we don't write books with a pencil and paper anymore Noonan, we use computers. ha. Support from my family and friends would help too, which is what Virginia Woolfe didn't have. She had support from family i think but not from any other people. Knowledge is a given for writing as well.
Cris- yea a brain would be a good idea to have or like any knowledge to help her write she would need a little college at least.

Shierra- yea i think you need passion to write that stuff and a goal cause without a goal you don't know what your aiming for in writing.

comment on kandys post

yes Kandy is right a woman should stop being afraid of living in a mans world. And think she is also able to succeed and will not be put down by a man. That is also very important I give you props

The weather is nice :P

Virgnia Woolf argues that in order to write, a woman must have money and a room of her own. What would you add to that list? Think beyond just "pen," and "paper." If you wanted to spend your lifetime writing, what would you need--both literally and figuratively?

In my opinion in order for a woman to spend the rest of her life time writing she would need money and a room to herself. She should also use other books as a nice guide to help her expand her knowledge. Books would help her think of things that other people have not written about and that would make her stuff unique. Also another thing that a woman might need is support, she would need this in order to feel confident that she is doing a good job or else none of her things would seem worth living for. Another thing is passion, a woman must have the passion to write so she can feel good and positive that her stories will later be intriguing to the reader. Another thing that a woman must need to be able to become a writer is connections with other people that will help her expand worldwide and therefore become greatly known all over the place. She will need to make friends so they can also help her out in accomplishing her goals.

[INSERT CLEVER TITLE HERE]

It isn't really as simple as wolf described. But then again, nothing ever is. One of the things that a woman would need is the ability to go out and wander. If you're stuck in one room then you won't be able to grasp ideas out of thin air. You need to "go fishing".  Another thing that you would need is a person to either input ideas or to see if your ideas are good too. You Need at least a little of  education. I think thats about everything. Yeah.

hmm what would i add

I have many things that I would like to add to her list. In order to write I think you should have passion because if you don't have passion then you not going to be able to sit down and write about something you love. Another thing I would add is you have to set a goal for yourself that you are going to write because you want to but not for anyone else reasons.

Brains!!!!

i agree with virgina wolf you do need money and a room of your own to be able to write. i also think that in order to write a woman also needs to have a brain in other words she needs to have knowledge of some sort. she needs the ability to understand what she is writing about. if she understands what she is writing about her readers will understand as well.

I agree with Virgina Woolf 100 percent i also believe that a woman needs to know who she is as a person. She needs to know what she believes in and what she wants to stand up for. A woman knowing herself is the most important thing. It doesnt matter if her views and opinions are different then others as long as she believes in herself and her values and morals. Great writers have a sense to what they want to write about it and believe in.

If actions speak louder than words then why is the pen mightier than the sword??? s

According to virginia woolf all a woman needs to write fiction is money and a room of ones own.I agree to a certain extent. I think that in order for a woman to write a woman needs a MIND of her own.she needs to be able to express her emotions knowing the possible repercussions and still not be afraid of being a WOMAN in a mans world. That, guys, is what a woman truly needs.

My reaction
so long boring and lame and was very long...

Torturous?
yes it was hard as it can be seen from the results. It would've been better if the question weren't so hard and boring.

The sections
they all seemed hard to me none were easy at all, the hard questions are always the whole general theme ones.

The essays
the essays were lame i cant think of a good enough choice for the question, but i did finish in time about 5-8 minutes early maybe.

D:

The practice exam was terrible. I feel like since i had to go through that once, im really not going to have the mental energy to do it again. I felt like boring with very long was just the worst thing ever. Thanks for the panera though. That was my only motivation to come >.<
Ap Exam!!!!!!!!!

I actually was tired and nervous about the previous exams. Exams are long and boring that sometimes it attack us becuase then we just get tired at the middle or by the end of the exam. The multiple choices were a little hard especially the first passage. The poems were ok but some of the answers were tricky. The essays ufffffff....especially one of them I was confused and did not know were to start. I did not have enough time because I was trying to finish all three essays and then if I had enough, I will go back and add more. But that day was a torture because we had to do three essays.

-__-

Well... I took it yesterday. I thought it was going to be hard, but I felt like it wasn't. The funny thing is that when I feel like a test is easy, it is not, and get most of the work wrong. It was pretty boring and tiring, but I survived. I am a little afraid i didn't do good on my essays, but hopefully I did.
The AP exam was very boring. In the begining I did okay, then in the end I did pretty bad. I did okay in the poem of New York, it was interesting. The writting part was too long. I did the first essay question first, then a I did the third one, and the last one was the second one because that was the most difficult one for me. I did not really finish.

:O

My reaction to the AP Exam was what I expected it was very long and boring like all three hour test. I kept wanting to fall asleep and just get the test over with. It was very torturous and extremely boring, the question weren't that hard, the hardest part was trying to focus on the poems and short stories. The time for the essays was very little I was only able to finish two essays and the third one I only did half of it. Question 3 is still one of the more harder essay questions, it's confusing and hard to think of a book or play to go with it.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

What was your reaction to the practice AP exam? How torturous was it? Were any sections easier than you thought? Harder? How were the essays? Did you finish on time?

I HATED it! it was not that hard but it was very challenging! The reading and answering questions where waaay easier compared to the writting three essays in two hours. I personally feel that is impossible! It is so hard to focus. I was zoning in and out the whole time. The poem essay and the question three was the easiest. I did not finish on time i rushed through what i was already doing.

I LOVED THE PRACTICE AP EXAM... *very sarcastic*

I hated the practice AP exam. It was everything I thought it would be: long, hard, and boring. I don't know how I'm going to sit there during the real one and stay focused because I'm going to get sleepy from the dullness of this dumb test. It's more boring than the ACT. There was NOTHING easy about it. After I saw my scores from the practice, I can only imagine how I'm going to do on the real one. It was the most torturous thing ever. I finished on time, but that's because I was rushing through because I was bored and sleepy and ready to get back in the bed. Smh this test is irrelevant. Why do we have to take it?

- Ciera.

what ii think isss

What was your reaction to the practice AP exam? How torturous was it? Were any sections easier than you thought? Harder? How were the essays? Did you finish on time?

What i think that it was super long and it got boring at some point and the second essay was like i don't get you tell me what you mean so yeah. I think it was a little torturous but then again it felt much like the act but the one thing that's different here is that your stuck with English all the way trough and with the act its not as much time with the English. I think that the sections that were easier were the shorter ones . The essays well I think they were ok except the second one i was tuck on that one for a very very long time. And yes i did finish on time.

Ugh the AP Exam

The Exam was really long and boring o really wanted to quit but I didn't. I was able to finish on time for every section. I didn't like the poems on the exam. The questions that have to do with referring back to the line was easier for me. Over all the exam was okay

AP exam

Well for starters, if it's a practice exam I won't really take it seriously until the actual test. But ny reaction was alright let's get this over with. It's to hot and I wanna go home. I feltbj was vein tortured sitting down for 2 hours writing essays. I don't think anything was easy. To me it was hard. The essays were hurting my hand and I felt though ad my hands were going to fall off. I did finish in time but that was because my hand was hurting, my head was hurting and at the end I started to just write anything. But for the real one I will do my best!!!

My reaction: "Why is it not over yet >.>" and " Why are there three essays -______- " And "What.. does... that word mean O.O"

How torturous: On a scale from one to ten it was a seven.

Easy sections: The short story multiple choice section, the passage we had to do an essay on and  on the last essay where we chose a book to do the essay on

Harder: The poem multiple choice and the essay on the poem

Essays: Two out of three were okay, the second essay was a pain
Did I finish on time: After a little rushing on my last essay yeah.

My Milkshake Brings all the Boys to the Yard *claps hands gayly* :D

What was your reaction to the practice AP exam?

  • The AP Exam was extremely boring. The people that create the exam probably have no life and are complete loners. I was surprised to find out that I did not do as bad as I expected but I still did pretty horrible. Hopefully next time I will be able to do better.

How torturous was it?

  • It was excruciatingly painful to take the AP Exam. The idea of having to repeat exams such as the AP Exam makes me, personally, want to jump off the tallest building in the world but I won't because someone will probably think I'm crazy and make me go to an Insane hospital or something.

Were any sections easier than you thought? Harder?

  • The test was as hard as I thought it was going to be, well, maybe a little harder. I was surprised I did better when I doodle then when I don't. Hopefully this information will help me somewhere a long the way.
How were the essays? Did you finish on time?

  • I have to be honest I do not remember what the essays were about except for question number 3. I forgot the name of the main characters so I guess I have to refresh my brain. As for finishing on  time, I kind of ran out of time a little but I managed to finish.

comment on cristal's

yes she is funny in a dumb way, she thinks all shes learning is boring. I like her when she said she cant spell cough my favorite.

The lorax is so funny :D

Cecily is my favorite, even though she might seem a little weird. Shes really funny especially when she writes stuff down in her diary so she can publish it XD. It was really funny when she said she cant spell *cough*. Also that she just meet algernon or who she thinks is Ernest, and there gonna get married because they were engaged since months but algernon didn't even know.

Cecily!

Cecily is my favorite character from the Importance of Being Earnest caaaaaaause she's funny in a really dumb way. She knows she can be smart and study but she chooses not to because she finds it all boring. She's crazy and all but i think she definitely knows that she is crazy. Being stupid, like everyone else in the play, is easier than being smart.

Sneaky...

I find, i think, Earnest/Jack the most likeable for me because he is really funny. The fact that he is making fun of the society they have in a funny way is really sneaky. Thee characters tell us readers what they think about society and their expectations in a way that we won't even know how we know what they are thinking about society. All I am trying to say is that we know what they think, but we don't know how we know. I think that Earnest/Jack is the skeakiest of them all.

Everybody said Algernon -____________-

Well I was GOING TO say Algernon, but since everybody else chose him, I'm gona pick the 2nd most likable person... To me. I like Lady Bracknell. I only like her because she a boss. She is a prime example of how women were looked up to and respected back in this time period. Usually, the woman doesn't really have a say in anything. And in this, Lady Bracknell gets the last word. She's also intimidating. Yup, she a boss.

Ciera.

The guy that makes cucumber sandwiches and eats them all...

So basically... Algernon is the most clever idiot that has ever existed in the history of characters. I love how evil and mischievous he is, as well as being the most hilarious character in the story. I feel like he knows that he is dumb because hes smart and has control of the dumb things he does. Unlike the other characters who are really just idiots.. -___-

grrrr...i have problems posting mine

Hmmm

Well since I wasn't here to read the book I have to say I like Jack because he is different he is not like everyone else so I admire him for being different. I wish I could of gotten to finish the book.

Algeerrnnooooonnnnnnnn

The Importance of Being Earnest is filled with characters we love to hate. Of all the characters in the play, which do you find most likable? Why?
I think Algernon is the most likable because he has a a great sense of humor. He also has a witty my sly feeling to him. He also seems like he has a good head on his shoulder because he wanted to prove Jack a point. i thought it was kind of funny that he ate all the cucumber sandwiches made me kind of think he a little on the chubby side which is okay..

I like Algernon. Even though he seems like a prick, he does it with style. He's witty and funny and always has something quotable. I have a suspicion that he is fat since they keep saying he's always hungry and he ate all the cucumber sandwiches.

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Who do i like more?

The character that I find most likable in the play is Algernon. I think that yeah he might act like silly sometimes he actually has common sense and knows what he is talking about. The rest of the characters not as much like those girls Gwendolen and Cecily who want a guy just for his name. Then there is Jack and he is just lying to people about who he really is and thinks if he gets baptized that he will be able to change his name with out any problem. I mean Algernon I my point of view he is only going bunbary because he want to teach jack a lesson so that Jack can stop doing it because eventually it wil get him in to some real trouble. So thats why I hink Algernon has the most common sense and the other ones just listens to what he says.

Algernon!!!!

I like Algernon I see him as been the main character even though the story/play focuses on Jack the most. He is the comedian and the one that really knows what is going on in the story. He is the clown in the play because he makes fun of marriage with his sarcasm. He has that craziness and daring type of attitude because of how he went to act like he was Mr. Ernest Worthing. Algernon also has a really cool name. I feel like Oscar Wilde made Algernon a bit like him.

Comment on C. Jones

I agree with Chante they do not know how to represent their society at all they just goof around and make up people that don't even exist.

Comment to Karen's

I agree with you Karen the Awesome they focus more on the Sandwiches for his aunt then about marriage. Which is really sad but funny.

why cant i comment >:( ???

Yari: Dont forget about the big fuss about no more cucumbers. Its funny to think that the people who are suppose obey the ways in society make fun of it.

Ciera: the making fun of how everyone is suppose to act is the funny part about it. The purpose of this play is to show how everything back then was so boring and  non changing.

Manners o.O

Importance of Being Earnest is mocking the importance of being mindful with the people of the high class. The two main characters focus more on the small details then they do on the big things like marriage for example. They think that it is more important to focus on the cucumber sandwiches that were order for Lady Brackenel then the importance of Gwedolyn marrying Ernest because of his name without evening knowing how he really is. What's wrong with her and what's wrong with Jack making up a brother named Ernest?

manners...

I think that The Importance of Being Earnest is comedy of manners because basically all that they do is make fun of the way people are supposed to be acting.what I think it means is just making fun of rules and playing around like if nothing is serious. It has been shown in the book already when they say that Lady Bracknell has power, when in reality women could not have any power.Another way that this has been shown is when they don't really talk to each other formally because they call them selves Algy and jack and Ernest or Algernon but they never call each other "Mr"., the only one that has a type of formality is Lady Bracknell because they actually use " Lady". It is shown in everything because they do not take anything seriously not even marriage.

No more cucumbersssss ahhhhhhhhhhh

I think its a comedy of manners because the play makes fun of the way people are suppose to act and mostly do the opposite. Just like they worry about the tiny stuff instead of the bigger ones like cucumbers. Then they don't want to go to any parties because they know exactly what will happen and its boring.

Earnest

The Importance of Being Earnest is a comedy of manners because the way that it mocks the behavior of the characters especially since they are rich. It's been shown through the play in the way that Jack makes up a brother that is ill and then says that he is that he will tell Cecily that he died. The way that they argue about the smallest things like the cucumber sandwiches.

. . .

It's bn funny because they are rich but yet if the daughter wants to get married she ha to know the guys name. Who cares about the name. It's not going to kill anyone. And what's soooo important about those dumb cucumber sandwiches. Its funny how they are rich and all the do is sit around bother people or make fun of others. They should do something useful. Ugh they get me mad yet it's still funny.

...

This is a comedy of manners because it's a mockery of how upper class people live. All the characters talk about is irrelevance. They don't care about the important things in life. They talk about cucumber sandwiches and how the most important thing about a man is his name. What?! That doesn't sound right at all. Everything is so backwards in this play, that's what makes it funny. You have these wealthy people who sit around with nothing to talk about nothing because they have nothing better to do.

Comedy of Manners :)

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? What does this mean? How has it been shown in the play already?
This play is comedy of mannrs type play becuase it makes fun of the society that is going on around them. The two main characters are the ones who are suppose to represent their society as one of the greatest. they do not have to do much, they are super wealthy. They make fun of the manner that go around like for example the whole marriage situation they did not take it very serious but they sure were serious about those cucumber sandwhiches that were eaten. It's like the author of the play is trying to prove a point in a wity but clever way.

What's so honest about being Earnest?

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? What does this mean? How has it been shown in the play already?
Well, I think that it has been funny because the characters are pretty much making fun of the way society is during that period of time. The two main characters both represent the "manners" that are expected from the rich people who have nothing else to do than stay home, eat, sleep and bother other people. They take mostly everything as a joke, specially marriage. They think life is a joke as a whole, and like they could get everything they want because they are rich, and do not know how to appreciate the things they have and that others don't. So, far, is like a play making fun of society. (forgot the formal word for this).

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? What does this mean? How has it been shown in the play already?
It's a comedy because it basically makes fun of the rich and what their opinions of manners really are. Things that are important like marriage aren't while eating cucumber sandwiches that are meant for someone else is very frowned upon. Comedy of Manners is another way of saying the way that they make fun of a person's Manners, Like they do with the rich people in the book. It has been shown in several ways. For example I mentioned earlier that Alge got pissed off because jack wanted to eat a cucumber sandwich. Pretty messed up if you asked me. I have a suspicion that he's fat too.

Written by this wild guy :D

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? What does this mean? How has it been shown in the play already?

Well in my opinion this is a comedy that makes fun of the manners that were expected by the people in society at the time Wilde wrote about it. The way this is shown in the play is by intentionally picking out some of the things that people were expected to follow for example, the way marriage was thought about, in those times people believed of marriage as a business and that hardly anyone would marry because of they were in love rather because they needed to find someone that would support them financially. Another way that Wilde makes fun of the way people needed to act was by the way he allows his characters to act, these characters are extremely foolish and could be thought of as crazy man that have nothing better to do but case one another for a cigarette box. The Importance of Being Earnest demonstrates how men in those times were spoiled little brats that had nothing to worry about and had enough money to get anything that they wanted and were maintained by their family members, this to the poor might seem very funny but those that actually decided to live that way might take it as an offense. Many are not fond of those that make fun of their way of life and that might be the reason why many did not like Wilde.

:)

What did you think of the movie? What connections did you see between the movie and the novel? What is the movie saying about independence?

I liked the movie even though we should of watched pride and prejudiced! I enjoyed seeing the comparison of the two and how she wrote about what she could relate to. I noticed how Mr lefroy was a butthole at first and so was Mr. Darcy. Also how Lydia was similar to Jane sister in the movie. How Mr Lefroy and Jane were going to run off like Lydia and Wickham did. The movie is saying that independence if scarce but it is impossible if you are strong enough to take of yourself as a women. Many people dont approve of it but it is possible

To people in movie: "Why you no dieee?"

the movie was ok it was not dark knight, but it was interesting some parts were really funny. It was sorta annoying when the class went AWWWW to some parts. they were lots of connections i would call them out during the movie, i guess Jane wrote the story based on her life just made it happier at the end. The end was ehhh if Jane really did love that dude she should gone with him then figure out about the family later. It not toms fault the family is suffering... OH WELLL The book and the movie promoted Independence sorta but saying that it isn't easy so watch out.

Becoming Jane...

I loved the movie very much. Thank you! I didn't like the ending much because it wasn't what I expected, but it was still a really good movie. Pretty much every part of the movie was a part in Pride and Prejudice. The walk: which symbolizes independence, Jane's family and Lizzy's family. Also, most of the characters from the movie are in the book. The movie was being realistic of how it would work out for independent women like Jane. It would not be the fantasy that Jane lived in Pride and Prejudice. The book's events do happen in the real life back then, but the ending wouldn't be the same, because that's reality.

Becoming Jane!!

What did I think of the movie? Well only that it is the best movie on Jane Austens life! I enjoyrd watching this movie because it is such a romantic/sad movie that makes people like me cry. This movie allowed me to see how harsh womens lives were back then. It also got me really mad because Jane was not able to marry the man she loved. Yet even after they seperated he showed her how much he still loved her by naming his first daughter Jane! Well there were also a lot of similarities in this movie and Pride and Prejudice. Jane reminded me of Elizabeth anf her pride but she also thought more of others lives than her owns, she could not be with Lefroy because his parents would no longer recieve the money he was getting from his uncle. Lefroy also had a drastic change just like Darcy did in the book. I also believe that Jane wrote her ending the way she did because of how her and her sister felt about evrything that was happening in the family for example Jane not being able to be with Lefroy and Cassandras future husband to have died. This movie in my opinion was showing how women were able to be independant on their own. The perfect example that demonstrates that is Jane she never married. Jane became a very famous writer even if she did not have the man she "needed".
What did you think of the movie? What connections did you see between the movie and the novel? What is the movie saying about independence?

I though that the movie was super cute! Even thought Jane did not get married with the guy she loved she did have the honor of Mr. Lefroy naming his daughter after her which was super adorable! I still think we should have seen Pride and Prejudice.

The connections I saw where the ones between Jane and Elizabeth, they are exactly alike. They both have a witty, smart, and stubborn attitude. It is too bad that their stories did not end the same way. :(
Also the connection between Mr. Lefroy and Mr. Darcy, besides both being extremely adorable, they are also gentlemen except one of them is poor and one is rich.

Independence is great!

Mr. Lefroy you can take me home tonight ;D

Becoming Jane was a pretty awesome movie. I keep on confusing Jane for Elizabeth! La! How strange! :D
So Sara, Lisa, and I were discussing which characters where whom in Pride and Prejudice and Austen's real life. This are our results:

Jane Austen: Lizzy! They have the same witty attitude.
Jane Bennet: Austen's sister. They are both sweet and kind.
Mr. Darcy: This was a tough one. At first, we thought that he was Mr. Darcy but then we saw that Mr. Lefroy was similar to Mr. Wickham too but then Again Mr. Wisley was rich and mysterious like Mr. Darcy as well. We decided that Mr. Darcy was a combination of Mr. Lefroy and Mr. Wisley.
Lady Catherine: Basically a given, she is Mr. Wisley's aunt.
Mary/Lydia: That one annoying girl singing in the piano in the beginning of the movie.

A lot of the events that occurred in Pride and Prejudice actually happened in Austen's life. Stuff like the elopement. I did not know that she almost ran away with Mr. Lefroy. Independence comes with a high cost.

Becoming Jane..............

The movie Becoming Jane was good. I like the ending especially because the one she wanted to be with he named his daughter Jane which was so cute. There were many connections to the book and the movie like for an example the one who wanted to marry her said "It is a truth universally acknowledged" that quote opens up the book of pride and prejudice. Another connection to the book was jane and tom run away and in the book lydia and wickham run away. The movie is saying about in dependence is you have to do the right things even it means you going to be alone

It is a truth universally acknowledged...............

I really liked the movie. The guy who played Tom Lefroy was too cute haha. Anyway, it has a lot of connections to the book. For example, the title of my post is the very first line of the book, and in the movie the guy she was supposed to marry said it when they were walking and talking. That's where she got the line from. Another connection to the book was when Jane and Tom ran away, Lydia and Wickham ran away. Another connection was walking. There was lots of walking in the movie as well as in the book. And there's a lot more connections I can't think of right now. The movie is saying that you don't need a husband to be financially stable and to be happy.

[INSERT CLEVER TITLE HERE]

What did you think of the movie? What connections did you see between the movie and the novel? What is the movie saying about independence?
I liked the movie, I wanted to know if I can borrow it actually. There were various connections between the Novel and the book like the personalities of the characters. Jane is obviously Elizabeth, They both play the piano, share the same opinions about a lot of things, speak in an intelligent manner, and both believe that they should only get married with someone who they actually love. The movie basically said that if you want to marry someone, don't marry them for the money. don't marry them if you feel like you won't be happy. If you can't find that then you will be fine on your own, if you make the effort. Yeah.

Jaaaaaaane! o.o

Soooo the movie about Jane Austen was awesome! Not only was Tom Lefroy insanely hot, but the story was so interesting. It was so similar to Pride and Prejudice i the sense that Austen seemed to have written it as the happy ending for her life. She mixed and created characters out of people in her life, including Mr. Wisley, her sister, and her parents. The economical situation was the same also. As she says in the movie about her book, to her sister, that too many extraordinary women are born into such low social classes. Which makes them seem worth less. There were so many connections, like how Mr. Wisley and the nice lovable side of Lefroy are Mr. Darcy. The bad sie of Lefroy is Wickham, and how he was going to take Jane on an elopement was what happened to Lydia. SO many connection! the movie says that independence is important, to Jane Austen it was everything. she admired independence more than love itself. As much as she wanted a happy ending, love could not be the answer to a perfectly happy life in her situation.

Becoming Jane

I really enjoyed the movie. It shows how the book Pride and Prejudice came to be and why. It helped us understand Jane Austen a bit more. The connections between the movie and the book as very similar. The mothers only goal was to get her daughters married. In order for either Jane or Elizabeth to get married had to be because of love and nothing else. Not even the money was important to them. In the movie Jane decides to run away and in the book Lydia runs away. The movie is saying that being independent is good and that you can actually be successful without having someone on your side.

comment for ciera

yea she was full of herself that she was hiding how she felt but she expressed them in the wrong way.

WHATS WRONG WITH THIS (comment on jaM'ya)

and also that lizzy is the main character in the book she wants to show people that lizzy can show people who might have pride to not let it get to your head

I CANT FEEL MY LEGS!

According to austen i think she says anyone can be lizzy but it has its consequnces. In the book Lizzy has too much pride that she c ant see the world around her like it really is. Her pride makes her almost blind when she was asked by Darcy to marry her, instead of talking about how she feels and that she was hurt by Darcy because of the situation with Jane she pushed him away. It was until after reading the letter she knew the real story but because of her pride it could be too late. Anyone can be Jane but don't let so much pride get to your head that it makes to blind to the truth.

Jane or Liz?

Austen make it seem that been a Liz is good. We see this through out the book because Jane admires her and Liz admires herself as well. She is the main character and has a stronger personality than Jane. I think that Liz has some traits similar to Austen. Liz is very strong minded, independent, and outspoken. She is not like the other characters she does her own thing. Since she is very independent women want to be like that they do not see why they should get married. Women of today can do and become whatever they want. They do not need a man. Thats why I would like to be like Liz and other people would to.
I would say Elizabeth. Because she has pride and looks at what others don't. Also because she's more independent and does things on her own. Her walking by herself shows that she independent. Jane on the other hand is Just nice and doesn't seem do independent herself. She just wants to marry Bingley and that is it. So I would go with Elizabeth.

JANE I mean ELIZABETH.! JUST READ IT>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say Elizabeth because both the author and Elizabeth want to find love before getting married. Neither of the ladys just want a marriage they want the key thing to holding on the marriage, which is LOVE. I also believe its Elizabeth because she is THE MAIN CHARACTER and alot of stuff revolves around her. Think about the whole Jane and Bingly thing, and how it got to Elizabeth and Darcy had to apologize in his letter. It all because its better to be Elizabeth. Look at the change that she is in now. She started off feelinging herself, and everytime she seen Darcy she always bring up the past and tell him what he did wrong. Then slowly she started to realizeher pride was getting in the way of her life, and love, and the first step to change is admting it and she did that. Don't get me wrong through she has a huge sense of independence but with Darcy he might can help trust and rely on other peopl a little more. So I think Jane Austen would like us to be Elizabeth and not Jane. lol

Lizzy! :)

According to Austen, is it better to be a Jane or an Elizabeth? Give evidence to support you answer.

It is better to be more like Elizabeth. I say this because the book is based on Elizabeth, she is the main character. Austen just wants to show how women need to grow and learn from different situation. She gives Elizabeth a personality that almost every women can relate to. She also puts her in situations that most women can relate to. Elizabeth is amazing she is just stands up for what she believes and doesnt let anyone change her. Austnen portraying her to learn and accept new things is her saying she wants people to be more like Elizabeth.

Jane or Elizabeth? Hmm....

According to Austen, is it better to be a Jane or an Elizabeth? Give evidence to support you answer.

I think Austen is telling her readers to be more like Elizabeth because through out the book we see Elizabeth growing into a better person. Where she was this girl who always judge people before she actually get to know them. Now later on in the book she has less pride where she is seeing people for them and seeing why they do the things they do. Especially with Darcy she didn't like him at all at first and when she started to be around more and more when Jane was sick she seen the real him and thinks he is a good guy. Elizabeth hated the fact that Jane is thinks everyone is innocent but she is realizing that you just can't judge and recognize he pride.

I'm on the edge.... Of glory. lalala..

In the book, Elizabeth went thru a whole little phase. In the beginning up to about chapter 35, she was so full of herself. She always brought up things from the past, even worse, in front of people. She obviously likes attention. But she doesn't want to show off her true colors. She kept her feelings to herself. But one thing about her is that she makes her own decisions, she walks alone; that shows her independence. I'm not saying she makes the best decisions tho. Anyway, she changed dramatically. Ever since she sunk in that letter from Darcy, she's let go of some of her pride. SOME. She became more considerate of others opinions. She told Jane about the letter, but left out the part about Bingley. Why? She didn't want to see her sister hurt. With these changes and stuff Elizabeth had, I think Austen is saying it's better to be her.

Elizabeth

I believe that Austen determines that it's better to be Elizabeth. Many of the reasons are found through out the book, but the main one I found was the fact that ELIZABETH is the main character of this book. If Austen had thought that being Jane was better than being Lizzy, she would have chosen Jane as the main character and she didn't. Other proof is that knowing the pride Lizzy has, we know that she will break a guy even if cold as Dracy. The character Lizzy represents is strong, independent and full of pride, meaning that it will be really hard for Lizzy to get hurt.
P.S HAPPY B-DAY KAY-CEE!!

Took me this long to find out you can change color..

According to Austen, is it better to be a Jane or an Elizabeth? Give evidence to support you answer.
I think that Austen is trying to show the readers that it would be best to be an Elizabeth, but If one were to act like her, He/she should look out and keep from being too prideful like the way that Elizabeth is acting. It would make sense to me that Austen would lean more towards Elizabeth because she is the main Character in the book. I also think that She says we should look out for the personality issues or problems that Elizabeth Has to deal with.

Side note: I find it odd that Austen has a lot of similarities with Elizabeth but the person opposite from them was given the name Jane As in her name.

Is the cup half empty or half full?? O.o

According to Austen I think being an Elizabeth is better than being a Jane. The reason behind this logic is that Elizabeth is very similar to Austen. For example, neither Elizabeth nor Austen will not marry unless is for love . According to the notes Ms. Noonan provided, Austen was a very feminist character that did not want to marry just for the fact that there was no love and the man whom she loved did not have a good social status. Elizabeth   did the same, she would not marry Mr. Collins because she felt no love towards him even though it was an excellent business deal. Except that the man she loves (even if she wont admit it) has a higher social standard than Elizabeth has. Both Elizabeth and Austen faced the same problem in their lives.

Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is definitely supposed to be Jane Austen's favorite.
Why else would she be the main character? She made her the strong, prideful, and beautiful woman that everyone wants to be. Yes, Jane is beautiful and nice but not everyone wants to be nice to everyone and just live with what is given to you. Elizabeth is the character that Jane Austen made that is proud of herself (for the most part) and has flaws that are almost attractive. They are obviously attractive to Mr. Darcy, since he cant stay off of her. Point is, Elizabeth is someone we wish we could be. Someone that has a strong character and can stand up for herself. Yes, she is going through tough times in the book currently. BUT, she seems to heading into a good direction. Elizabeth is the team i'm going for.

Is Mrs. Bennet a third option...lol

According to Austen, is it better to be a Jane or an Elizabeth? Give evidence to support you answer.

(I am stuck in the middle)...I really do not know who is better. Every person has their own thoughts and make the actions for a reason. Jane is nice and sweet BUT she just agrees with everything and does what she is told too. For example with her mom, Jane obeys her and went to Mr. Bingley's house. At the same time it is not good to be Jane because she does not see the bad side of life. Jane does not see the danger that can happen and lives in a fantasy world were everything and everyone is nice.

Elizabeth on the other hand is more of judging people without knowing their reasons or knowing that person. Elizabeth is more on the real world were she knows their are problems and people who lie. She is no sweet girl that can easily get convince right away like Jane.

From Elizabeth and Jane I cannot choose who is better because both have personalities that are to much. For example Jane is to sweet and Elizabeth is just a girl who has anger inside of her and judges people before knowing what really happened.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Jane Elizabeth

I believe that it is better to be a combination of both Jane and Elizabeth. I agree with wanting to a Jane because she is nice and sweet and does not like to judge people which is a very nice thing of her to do. Elizabeth likes to be more judgmental and look at everything negative which is not a good thing to do. Too much of anything is bad for a person so I believe that it is better to be half and half not too nice and think that the world is full of rainbows and butterflies we also have to some of the bad things that exist in the world. So in my opinion I think I would try to be both a Jane Elizabeth because Jane Austen tends to describe both characters equally. She shows how Elizabeth admires Jane and Jane admires Elizabeth.

Could it be both??

According to Austen, is it better to be a Jane or an Elizabeth? Give evidence to support you answer.

I am not so sure what side to take because even though Austen has Elizabeth as a main character there are decisions that she takes that are not the best ever. The title of this book is Pride and Prejudice but I think it is done this way so the reader can see how people in society can connect to sometimes being prideful or prejudicial. Elizabeth through the book shows a severe case of pride, but Austen justifies her attitude with her emotions being hurt and how Elizabeth fights for what she thinks is right and with what ever goes with her morals. Austen on the other hand also shows that being a Jane is not always a bad thing, Jane is highly liked by everyone by the decisions she takes in life and the way she decides to live it. Being a Jane to the author back then meant you will get a man with money that will support you financially and you will have the good life you deserve. It is sometimes hard to tell if Austen agree more with Elizabeth than Jane but there are other times when the distinction is obvious. In the middle of chapter 36 Elizabeth is recalling on the letter that Darcy wrote to her and she feels like she has been played and is not willing to accept the fact that a man like Darcy proposed to her and write her a letter explaining all that had happened she also creates a blindfold for herself to prevent her from admitting the fact that she has also fallen in love with Darcy. Austen is trying to let the reader know that there are time when you have to let your pride aside like Jane always does but there are also times when you have to neglect what everyone says and believe that the only thing that is right is what ever you say. Austen also shows that being like Jane can cause you great suffering since Bingley suddenly left her, since Jane did not have the guts to tell him why he left she was never mentioned the real truth of why he left. Jane being so kind and believing of everything Miss. Bingley said was also created a blindfold but this time from someone else.

Comment on C. Jones and Yari's post

C. Jones: I like how you mention that Elizabeth was too prideful to think about what others would think, and about the future. I agree that, that was the reason why she did not marry Mr. Collins.

Yari: I also agree with you in how it was and was not such a good idea in not marrying Mr. Collins, I believe that she was only thinking about her morals rather than her future.

What I think is ...

After Lizzy rejects Mr. Collins makes me feel that she has done the right thing. I mean I wouldn't want a guy like that either. I also think that if I were in her place and was written an essay for a proposal I would have fallen a sleep. :D I dont really admire Lizzy i think she did the right thing because she didn't like Mr. Collins and she was annoyed by him. Imagine a life with a person you dont like and don't get well with that annoys you. I think i would personaly kill my self if like i detested the person I was married with that is why I think Lizzy did the right thing because she would have a stable economic life but would be very misrable. I think I am fustrated with lizzy because she doesn't know what she wantes and doesn't want to admit what she wants in the inside. I think Im only fustrated with the fact that she is stuburn and just has too much pride to be able to get along with Mr. Darcy.

i don't really have an opinion........... idc lol.

After Lizzy dissed Collins, I was like ok. She obviously doesn't care about business and being financially stable. She obviously is the type of person who thinks that marrying the person you love is right, not marrying somebody because he or she has money. Plus, they're freaking cousins. They are related. They have the same blood running through their veins. Idc if they're second cousins. They still family. That's gross. On the other end, I guess turning him down was the wrong choice (BACK IN THAT TIME PERIOD).

Ciera,

I bought a lollipop eraser :D ~~!

When mr Collins asked her and lizzy asked I was like eh I knew that would happen. I was like ooooo girlll who just made a mistake how will you survive!? No one wants a women working only in the house. The only way she will survive is by getting a husband, I see why her mom was mad at her, that would've been the only chance she might get. It would be alright for her to reject someone in the present but the time is different, there's a slim chance of getting a husband for her if she keeps up with her pride geez...

Totally Lizzy:)

I think Elizabeth made the right decision by not marry Mr. Collins because its just gross and thats her cousin. I love Elizabth personality she is so different. Elizabeth is a independent woman who really don't need man. But in this time period she has to to get marry in order to be secure for life. I would love to see her marry Mr. Darcy because they would be good together.

Totally lizzy

YEA GO LIZZY!!!!

I admire Elizabeth. I think it was a good thing that she said no. She is really brave to turn a wealthy man down. She does not care what people think about her. She is more o a reality person and does not always see the bad in people. She just tries to see who they are. She's very independent and does things for her own being. It's also a good thing that she rejected him because he's always bragging about himself and thinking that he's the best. She can find someone better who is not related to her and one who will not jump from liking Jane to her. She's better off alone then with Mr. Collins!!!

Ummmmmmm I Dare To Stand Out So MAybe I'm not mad or Maybe I Am You have to Read n See :) :)

At fist I was mad at Elizabeth because I didn't understand why wouldn't she do it for the money. Then I though about it and I pondered, and I realized that she might end up in love. She could have said yes, and taken a chance at not being in love, hurting, miserable etc; but she didn't. Instead she wanted to be free. And when we read we notice how smart she is and we realizes tat she think things out for the MOST PART. So deep down she probbly know that she is attracted to Darcy and she just want to be PROUD (PRIDE) and not admit or better yet, not face the fact. So the first I read it yeahI was frustrated but as I kept going along it was like she might be doing what's best for her. I do admire Elizabeth to an extent. I admire her pride, and her always talking and placing her opinons, she reminds me of me just a little. So my finale answer is I WAS frustrated but I'm NOT ANYMORE.

What do you think? Commenttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Lizzy!

When Elizabeth rejected Mr. Collin I was like "YAYYY!!!!" He is a creep and she stood up for what she believed in. She didnt love him so why marry him? Some people may be frustrated with her because she missed out on a business deal, but her PRIDE took over, it is what it is. I'm glad she didnt agree to marry because now i feel like she is going to becomecloser to falling in love with DARCY!!!!!!! Elizabeth & Darcy! <3 #TeamDarcy! lol

*Looks deep into your eyes*....* and then smacks her!!!! >.>

Looking at the information provided from the time period in which the plot of this book takes place I think Elizabeth is, excuse my grammar, soooooooooooooooo sooooooooooooo STUPID!!!!! She had a good business deal and anyone in the right mind would have taken the proposal. She could have lived in her fathers house taking care of her other unmarried sisters but nooooo she chose what she thinks is love (which we all know she does not love Mr. Jerkface I mean Wickham). I think she should have taken the deal since she claims she hates Mr. Darcy.

-Just because I think she should have taken the deal does not mean that I wanted her to. I want her to marry Mr. Darcy! :D<3

Poor Elizabeth :(

After Elizabeth rejects Mr. Collins' proposal, what is your response? Do you admire Elizabeth? Are you frustrated by her? Explain.

My response for this nonsense is that in my 2012 version I am extremely happy that she did not accept his request because he is a %^*&^# liar because he told Elizabeth that he fell liked her when he first came in. The truth is that he liked Jane first but as soon as he found out that she was already looking into being with Mr. Bingley he stopped wanting to be with her.
My response in my 1800 version is that she was stupid and I want to kick her behind because if she would have married him she would have been economically stable in the future. Mainly because Mr. Collins was going to take over the house, Elizabeth could not put her pride to the side and think about how she was going to benefit form her marrying him. In a way I am frustrated with her because things are not flowing her way because she does not allow them to, and I do admire her but in my 2012 version since she thinks she does not need a man by her side to be happy and successful in life.

^.~

Yay!!!!
Finally, I have hopes that Lizzy and Darcy are going to end up together.
After she denied Collins I was like "Yay, you go Lizzy! Nwow FALL IN LOVE WITH DARCY!"
I believe that this shows that she wants to be able to have what she wants, not what other peeple want for her. She kind of knows that her mother does this for her own good, but she expects something else, different.
I also believe that she makes a great coulple with Darcy, because they have so many things in common, even if they don't see it. Also, Lizzy being the way she is, is the main reason why Darcy got attracted to her after not talking and not liking her. This means that He likes the way she is because she is DIFFERENT than other girls are.
^.~ (oh yeah)
^.^ (so cute)
*.* (Darcy's face when he thinks of Lizzy)
Lizzy<3Darcy

It was expected.

I thought she would have declined. I'm not shocked or mad at her. In a way she would have done what any other modern lady would have done if she did not like the man who asked to marry her. But in a way she did make a bad mistake because she isn't in our time. She is at a point of history where marriage is the only way for a woman to survive without having to beg, become a maid, or just stay home. And she might not have another chance to get married again. Mr. Darcy is too stubborn to "marry someone below his social status" And we have not heard news from Mr. Whickham (How ever you spell his name) So yeah...

Thats what she said. xD

I think that Elizabeth saying no to Mr.Collin shows that she is a strong and independent girl. The only thing is that in this time period marriage is the only way for a women to be financially stable. Elizabeth might also like Mr.Wickham but we do not know much about him, and if he does not propose to her then she is going to have to keep looking for a husband. I think she should have accepted the proposal. I do admire Elizabeth because she knows what she wants and does what she feels is right. I am not really frustrated with her because I think she will get another proposal by someone we least think of proposing to her.

Go Lizzy!!!!

My impression was that Elizabeth could care less about what people think about her and her thoughts upon marriage. It was not that shocking that she rejected Mr. Collins proposal because Elizabeth seems like the type of person that never cares what others tell her. Even though Elizabeth wouldn't get a proposal like that again I think she did good.

I effin' love Lizzy :D

Duuuuuuuude, I love Elizabeth because she stands up for what she wants to do and it shows how independent she is. If i lived in the time of this book, I would definitely be like her and stand up for myself in wanting to only marry someone I love. She might seem stubborn and annoying to some people, but i admire how much she speaks the truth. I have read the book before so I know what happens, which probably influences my perspective on her at the moment. (who knows! :O) She is awesome and Mr. Darcy, her father, and Jane are the only ones who see her perspective. She has yet to discover so much.

Brave Woman

After Elizabeth rejects Mr. Collins' proposal, what is your response? Do you admire Elizabeth? Are you frustrated by her? Explain.

I love Elizabeth!!!!! and also admired her. She is totally but totally different from all her crazy sisters because she really does not care about marrying a rich guy like her mother is doing with Jane. Only because Mr. Collins has money does not mean that she needs to marry him but that proves that not every woman have to follow that tradition of finding a man who has alot of properties and ($$$cachin cachin$$$. On the other hand I do not think Elizabeth is ready to get marry and start to have a family. Elizabeth is a person who speaks up and I think she still does not want to have responsibilities and have to worry about what man her daughters are marrying like her mother in the future.

I also think love should be involved in a marriage because then if Elizabeth marries Mr. Collins then they are going to be like Mr. and Mrs. Bennet that do not have communication and does not care about each other.

But...in that time woman did not have many choices. Woman were dependent by their brothers, and fathers. If both of them died...the third choice comes which is marry a rich guy in order to have a house were to live. Which it SUCKS!!!! anyways the good think things are wayyyyy different in these days.
