Teenage Wasteland: Daisy

I would say teenage wasteland is part of feminist literature. Donny's mother Daisy is the one that should be in charge and her children need to listen to her. But when Donny turns bad and doesn't listen they took him to a man named Calvin. He was the one that Donny went to because he knew that he wasn't going to get in trouble with Calvin. But one day the history teacher called Donny"s mother because they found beer in his locker and the mother told the teacher to talk with Calvin. But the teacher said no that she should be doing something because she wouldn't do anything. That Daisy is the mother and she needs to put Donny in his place. I chose this story because to me it seems that Daisy thinks that Calvin is helping Donny when he really isn't. She should take charge and handle her son. When i told my mom about this story she was kinda mad because she said if that were her dealing with someone like that, that she would have put them in their place along time ago. She wouldn't put up with it. That's why i chose this one.

  1. This could be another feminist literature that we have read. Daisy in my opinion did need to get her act together and take more care of her son. So i agree with you that Daisy had to put Donny in his place.

  2. I agree with both of you it was Daisy responsibility to get her son on the right track. Daisy should have had confidence in herself and helped her son not only by letting the tutor in charge but taking some action herself.

  3. This is a really good point of view that i never really thought of when i read Teenage Wasteland, but I partially agree with this. I think that this is somewhat of a feminist piece of literature from the mother's perspective and etc. But this is a very bad view of a mother who does not understand what is going on with her son that is keeping him from doing good and school. If this was a piece of feminist literature, the mother would be strong enough to want to find help and would be able to support her son as much as possible. In the story, the way she is described as dressed in a skirt and feeling a little self-conscious about how her looks. A feminist point of view would have shown her as confident even though she was not able to dress looking like an upper class women. Feminist are strong willed and independent, which the mother does not seem to be at all. Once again, this is only my point of view and i think you made a really good point.

  4. im glad you pointed this out because she was the last person to pop up in my head. You made a great point she should have stepped up and gotten her act together a long time ago. My mother also wouldnt have put up with it.
