The Adrienne Rich essay is mainly about how women are being mistreated in the world of education. Even though her essay was written in the late 60's early 70's many people may still relate to what the essay talks about. I generally believe in all the aspects that she mentions for example the one were she talks about how women who go to college are not really expected to graduate but find a good husband while studying. Even how she speaks about how professor's are able to manipulate women by threatening them with the grades. Though at the same time I don't think most men today still have the same aspect of life involving women. I believe that have yet to become more independent and prove to the world that they can do it on there own.
It's hard to believe that some women still have the idea of being someone she's not to have a man and become dependent to him. I know of a couple who are still old fashioned, but its the women who are independent like the way you say that are going to be the ones who prove the world what they're made of.
ReplyDeleteThis does relate to people now a days. Some people think that women can't independent. That they can't become what they want. That women supposedly have to depend on a man for everything. Well there are many women that don't need to rely or depend on anybody for anything. Women have the power to make things happen!
ReplyDeleteWell the crazy part about this is that now women don't care if they go school or not. Now a days it's better for them to get spoiled by their husband and just get to lay on the couch and watch movies all day. Women now a days prefer to find themselves a rich guy to maintain them and not have to worry about not having enough money to pay the rent, not having enough food to feed their babies, and not having money to go shopping.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you cristal because women still have so many more roles that could and should be played but society still does not allow. Even thought we do have equal rights legally, many men still have the mentality of a woman being inferior to a man. They have yet to be truly appreciated, not just appreciated by a law on a piece of paper.
ReplyDeleteOooh...I love these discussions. I think I disagree with Esbeidy, but maybe I'm just trying to be hopeful about the state of the world...
ReplyDeleteSo...what do we do to change this mentality that so many women have?
