Comment on C. Jones and Yari's post

C. Jones: I like how you mention that Elizabeth was too prideful to think about what others would think, and about the future. I agree that, that was the reason why she did not marry Mr. Collins.

Yari: I also agree with you in how it was and was not such a good idea in not marrying Mr. Collins, I believe that she was only thinking about her morals rather than her future.

What I think is ...

After Lizzy rejects Mr. Collins makes me feel that she has done the right thing. I mean I wouldn't want a guy like that either. I also think that if I were in her place and was written an essay for a proposal I would have fallen a sleep. :D I dont really admire Lizzy i think she did the right thing because she didn't like Mr. Collins and she was annoyed by him. Imagine a life with a person you dont like and don't get well with that annoys you. I think i would personaly kill my self if like i detested the person I was married with that is why I think Lizzy did the right thing because she would have a stable economic life but would be very misrable. I think I am fustrated with lizzy because she doesn't know what she wantes and doesn't want to admit what she wants in the inside. I think Im only fustrated with the fact that she is stuburn and just has too much pride to be able to get along with Mr. Darcy.

i don't really have an opinion........... idc lol.

After Lizzy dissed Collins, I was like ok. She obviously doesn't care about business and being financially stable. She obviously is the type of person who thinks that marrying the person you love is right, not marrying somebody because he or she has money. Plus, they're freaking cousins. They are related. They have the same blood running through their veins. Idc if they're second cousins. They still family. That's gross. On the other end, I guess turning him down was the wrong choice (BACK IN THAT TIME PERIOD).

Ciera,

I bought a lollipop eraser :D ~~!

When mr Collins asked her and lizzy asked I was like eh I knew that would happen. I was like ooooo girlll who just made a mistake how will you survive!? No one wants a women working only in the house. The only way she will survive is by getting a husband, I see why her mom was mad at her, that would've been the only chance she might get. It would be alright for her to reject someone in the present but the time is different, there's a slim chance of getting a husband for her if she keeps up with her pride geez...

Totally Lizzy:)

I think Elizabeth made the right decision by not marry Mr. Collins because its just gross and thats her cousin. I love Elizabth personality she is so different. Elizabeth is a independent woman who really don't need man. But in this time period she has to to get marry in order to be secure for life. I would love to see her marry Mr. Darcy because they would be good together.

Totally lizzy

YEA GO LIZZY!!!!

I admire Elizabeth. I think it was a good thing that she said no. She is really brave to turn a wealthy man down. She does not care what people think about her. She is more o a reality person and does not always see the bad in people. She just tries to see who they are. She's very independent and does things for her own being. It's also a good thing that she rejected him because he's always bragging about himself and thinking that he's the best. She can find someone better who is not related to her and one who will not jump from liking Jane to her. She's better off alone then with Mr. Collins!!!

Ummmmmmm I Dare To Stand Out So MAybe I'm not mad or Maybe I Am You have to Read n See :) :)

At fist I was mad at Elizabeth because I didn't understand why wouldn't she do it for the money. Then I though about it and I pondered, and I realized that she might end up in love. She could have said yes, and taken a chance at not being in love, hurting, miserable etc; but she didn't. Instead she wanted to be free. And when we read we notice how smart she is and we realizes tat she think things out for the MOST PART. So deep down she probbly know that she is attracted to Darcy and she just want to be PROUD (PRIDE) and not admit or better yet, not face the fact. So the first I read it yeahI was frustrated but as I kept going along it was like she might be doing what's best for her. I do admire Elizabeth to an extent. I admire her pride, and her always talking and placing her opinons, she reminds me of me just a little. So my finale answer is I WAS frustrated but I'm NOT ANYMORE.

What do you think? Commenttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Lizzy!

When Elizabeth rejected Mr. Collin I was like "YAYYY!!!!" He is a creep and she stood up for what she believed in. She didnt love him so why marry him? Some people may be frustrated with her because she missed out on a business deal, but her PRIDE took over, it is what it is. I'm glad she didnt agree to marry because now i feel like she is going to becomecloser to falling in love with DARCY!!!!!!! Elizabeth & Darcy! <3 #TeamDarcy! lol

*Looks deep into your eyes*....* and then smacks her!!!! >.>

Looking at the information provided from the time period in which the plot of this book takes place I think Elizabeth is, excuse my grammar, soooooooooooooooo sooooooooooooo STUPID!!!!! She had a good business deal and anyone in the right mind would have taken the proposal. She could have lived in her fathers house taking care of her other unmarried sisters but nooooo she chose what she thinks is love (which we all know she does not love Mr. Jerkface I mean Wickham). I think she should have taken the deal since she claims she hates Mr. Darcy.

-Just because I think she should have taken the deal does not mean that I wanted her to. I want her to marry Mr. Darcy! :D<3

Poor Elizabeth :(

After Elizabeth rejects Mr. Collins' proposal, what is your response? Do you admire Elizabeth? Are you frustrated by her? Explain.

My response for this nonsense is that in my 2012 version I am extremely happy that she did not accept his request because he is a %^*&^# liar because he told Elizabeth that he fell liked her when he first came in. The truth is that he liked Jane first but as soon as he found out that she was already looking into being with Mr. Bingley he stopped wanting to be with her.
My response in my 1800 version is that she was stupid and I want to kick her behind because if she would have married him she would have been economically stable in the future. Mainly because Mr. Collins was going to take over the house, Elizabeth could not put her pride to the side and think about how she was going to benefit form her marrying him. In a way I am frustrated with her because things are not flowing her way because she does not allow them to, and I do admire her but in my 2012 version since she thinks she does not need a man by her side to be happy and successful in life.

^.~

Yay!!!!
Finally, I have hopes that Lizzy and Darcy are going to end up together.
After she denied Collins I was like "Yay, you go Lizzy! Nwow FALL IN LOVE WITH DARCY!"
I believe that this shows that she wants to be able to have what she wants, not what other peeple want for her. She kind of knows that her mother does this for her own good, but she expects something else, different.
I also believe that she makes a great coulple with Darcy, because they have so many things in common, even if they don't see it. Also, Lizzy being the way she is, is the main reason why Darcy got attracted to her after not talking and not liking her. This means that He likes the way she is because she is DIFFERENT than other girls are.
^.~ (oh yeah)
^.^ (so cute)
*.* (Darcy's face when he thinks of Lizzy)
Lizzy<3Darcy

It was expected.

I thought she would have declined. I'm not shocked or mad at her. In a way she would have done what any other modern lady would have done if she did not like the man who asked to marry her. But in a way she did make a bad mistake because she isn't in our time. She is at a point of history where marriage is the only way for a woman to survive without having to beg, become a maid, or just stay home. And she might not have another chance to get married again. Mr. Darcy is too stubborn to "marry someone below his social status" And we have not heard news from Mr. Whickham (How ever you spell his name) So yeah...

Thats what she said. xD

I think that Elizabeth saying no to Mr.Collin shows that she is a strong and independent girl. The only thing is that in this time period marriage is the only way for a women to be financially stable. Elizabeth might also like Mr.Wickham but we do not know much about him, and if he does not propose to her then she is going to have to keep looking for a husband. I think she should have accepted the proposal. I do admire Elizabeth because she knows what she wants and does what she feels is right. I am not really frustrated with her because I think she will get another proposal by someone we least think of proposing to her.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Go Lizzy!!!!

My impression was that Elizabeth could care less about what people think about her and her thoughts upon marriage. It was not that shocking that she rejected Mr. Collins proposal because Elizabeth seems like the type of person that never cares what others tell her. Even though Elizabeth wouldn't get a proposal like that again I think she did good.

I effin' love Lizzy :D

Duuuuuuuude, I love Elizabeth because she stands up for what she wants to do and it shows how independent she is. If i lived in the time of this book, I would definitely be like her and stand up for myself in wanting to only marry someone I love. She might seem stubborn and annoying to some people, but i admire how much she speaks the truth. I have read the book before so I know what happens, which probably influences my perspective on her at the moment. (who knows! :O) She is awesome and Mr. Darcy, her father, and Jane are the only ones who see her perspective. She has yet to discover so much.

Brave Woman

After Elizabeth rejects Mr. Collins' proposal, what is your response? Do you admire Elizabeth? Are you frustrated by her? Explain.

I love Elizabeth!!!!! and also admired her. She is totally but totally different from all her crazy sisters because she really does not care about marrying a rich guy like her mother is doing with Jane. Only because Mr. Collins has money does not mean that she needs to marry him but that proves that not every woman have to follow that tradition of finding a man who has alot of properties and ($$$cachin cachin$$$. On the other hand I do not think Elizabeth is ready to get marry and start to have a family. Elizabeth is a person who speaks up and I think she still does not want to have responsibilities and have to worry about what man her daughters are marrying like her mother in the future.

I also think love should be involved in a marriage because then if Elizabeth marries Mr. Collins then they are going to be like Mr. and Mrs. Bennet that do not have communication and does not care about each other.

But...in that time woman did not have many choices. Woman were dependent by their brothers, and fathers. If both of them died...the third choice comes which is marry a rich guy in order to have a house were to live. Which it SUCKS!!!! anyways the good think things are wayyyyy different in these days.

This Week's Assignment

By 6 P.M. on Sunday, January 29, you must post a response to the following question:

After Elizabeth rejects Mr. Collins' proposal, what is your response? Do you admire Elizabeth? Are you frustrated by her? Explain.

In addition, you must comment on two of your classmates' entries.

Since we're being honest here...

I do my weekly essays two nights before it's due, or the night before it's due. The process is: read the prompt, read the poem/story/whatever, TRY to see how it goes with the question, then I just contemplate on what to write about. Writing a thesis statement is probably the hardest thing for me. Another thing is we cannot use first person, which is also hard for me. Those are my problems. ANOTHER thing is, sometimes, these essays don't even reach 3 pages. Once it's explained already, there's nothing more to say; and a lot of times, that's done in a page and a half to 2 pages. I agree with Buzo when she said they should be every TWO weeks. It makes life much easier, you know, unless you want to kill us all.

Ciera.

Ehh...

I do the weekly essays as and blogs as i go along, to be honest. I'm a disorganized person in a way, but it's hard for me to actually do things planned. I don't like planning. The ideas come to me as i go along.

The essay's

Essay's are not my most favorite things. I start of by reading the assignment at least twice. Secondly, I try to find out what the author's used (ex: Imagery). Thirdly, I make an outline, that way I know what I am going to type. Forth, I start writing my essay on thursday. That is not the best idea. Fifth, I send it to my email so the next day I can print it out. Sixth, I print it out in the morning at school. My thesis statement I started it after I finished reading the assignment.

I Do Mine LikeThis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do my weekly essay the night before. My last to essay's I did was done the day of. I don't really remember about it until that Thursday anyway. My thinking process is kind of simple. I think about my thesis statement, and sometimes I find that to be the hardest pat. I need a technique to find a good thesis statement. After I find one I make my introduction a little simple to understand because I know that my conclusion has to be very similar to it. Then I do my body paagraphs and I'm done. Oh but while I'm typing my paper I keep it in a smaller font and i make it size 11 so once I double space, Times New Roman, and 12 it I'll atleast have 1 and half pages.

Hmmm Weekly Essay

When I do my weekly essay I read my question over so i know what question i need to answer then i start to read the poem or short story a couple of times to really understand the main point of the reading. The next thing i do is start on my thesis statement and rereading it over making sure its good i always include the name of the poem or story and the author name. Then I start written my paper breaking it down in each paragraph and explaining why i chose is quote. Then to finish it off i end my paper with a conclusion.

ESSAYS FUN FUN FUN :D

Well writing essays has its good things and bad things, how about we start with the bad and point out some of the problems I encounter while writing these weekly essays: To begin with I have a hard time understanding what the author is trying to say, mainly if this is a poem we are talking about. The next problem I have is taking a side after I interpret the authors main points, this is always critical when writing an essay since you have to be able to back up what ever you decide is most reasonable. Another bad thing is that I am very tired to process things into my brain at the very last minute so I have an extremely hard time expressing my opinions on a Thursday at 11am :p maybe that is the reason why I never get my full points but we will never known. Enough about the bad things lets talk about the good, if you write essays you expand your knowledge, you can become better at your social skills, it will eventually prepare you for college. Writing essays will also allow you to know how to respond to any situation, not only that but it will help to support it as well. Your teacher will tell you if your good/ smart enough to go to college. Well I am done with that part the next part is explaining step by step how all of this good stuff works:

STEPS:
  1. Read the title and make inferences as to what it might be about
  2. Read the passage
  3. If I did not understand it I have to read it again
  4. Think of a good thesis statement, and a couple of literary terms or figurative language that the author uses to express his or her argument
  5. Write down my introduction
  6. Write my body according to the literary terms that I came up with
  7. Have to write the body using reasons as to why I think the whole thing makes sense
  8. Write down the conclusion pretty much just restating my thesis and giving another extra info on the passage
  9. Save it and send it to my email
  10. CHARGE MY PHONE AND GIVE MY THUMBS A BREAK!
  11. Wake up at 5 AM go to school print it out and hope Ms. Noonan understands where I am coming from or my nonsense and gives me a reasonable grade :p

Weekly "tire-ish" Essays

I use the process of intro, body: sentences topics, and conclusion. I first look for the proof the argument is asking me for. I looke for literature terms used on the poem/passage by the author and use it as examples to prove the argument. I develope my thesis statement by using my proof of the argument and include the author's and poem/passage's name in it. Problems that I frequently encounter are that I most of the times cannot explain the quote I chose as how it's an example of my literary terms. I also find it hard to prove my point without summarizing what the quote is saying.

Weekly essays!>:/

I personally don't like doing weekly essays. I think we should have these essays due every two weeks that way we wont be so stressed out. Either way i know i still have to do them...Unfortunately. So some of the ways I prepare to do the weekly essays is first, i read the essay and whatever the question is we have to answer, just so that i can get a good idea. After that i start typing the actual essay on a wednesday. The fist part for me is the hardest! Coming up with a thesis statement is what i kind off struggle with. Its sometimes difficult to come up with athesis statement that is short and to the point. This is what throws me off and sometimes my essay doesn't come out so good. But getting started early and not the day before its due really does help out a lot:)

Comment on Vane's Post

Vane you probably should at least read the prompt when it is handed to us that way your not rushing to do all your other homework and essay in one night. Reading the prompt ahead of time also allows you to have an idea of what you will be writing. You should doing an outline ahead of time that may help a lot.

Weekly Essays -_____-

The process that I use when I'm writing my weekly essay is I first read the passage that is assigned to us. As I write I usually tend to highlight key ideas points that I find to be very important and that would make great references once I have chosen my sub-topics. I reread the question that has to be answered in my prompt at least twice to have in mind the topics that would suit the question best. Problems that I frequently encounter are not knowing literature terms I could use while writing my essay; for example using the terms like hyperbole, personification, etc. to go into detail of my essay.

Whatis it like when worlds collide????? O:

Hello, this is the process I go through every time I do an essay:

  1. Read the question and highlight what the question ACTUALLY asks. (That way you answer the right question)
  2. Actually read the article (I know surprising O:)
  3. Highlight anything important (So you don't forget)
  4. Go to pandora/ Play some music (helps to get my ideas flowing :D)
  5. Stare at my screen for 5min trying to figure out what to do or how to start.(O_O)
  6. Go to the bathroom (lol nature calls :P)
  7.  Start typing single spaced (with my fingers O: lol)
  8. Type about a page and a half (because I'm cool haha :P)
  9. Click Ctrl+2 to make paper double space. (it'll be about 3pgs long double spaced)
  10. Save the paper with a random name (Ex: booo Eng)
  11. Email it or save it on flash drive. (make sure to attach file)
  12. YAY! You are done! You can go to sleep now! :D (because it's probably 2am)

:)

I prepare my mind to focus on the text. Then after I read the text over a few times I think about what terms i want to talk about and use. I brainstorm how I want to layout my paper to how i want it to go. Then When it comes to my thesis I think about what Ms. Noonan told us about the "WOW". That really helps. Then i re read the paper i wrote to figure out any grammatical errors i can fix. What I usually have problems with is explaining my point in the paper. I know how i want things to play out then when i start writing it doesnt turn out how i want. Another problem would be connecting the text to the question we are suppose to answer.

oh..oh...oh

I am going to be honest. I actually start my essay a night before, which it is not a good idea because then you are in a rush just to get the essay done and do not have all the evidence to support your essay.

Other days I start writing my essay the next day after I get the essay question to gather all the information and highlight important parts in the poem or story.
Sometimes after not writing an essay for a week or two, I forget what or how should I start my essay.

Making an outiline it is helpful because then you get to connect all your ideas and make your life more easier. Also anoter way of making a better essay is by asking Ms. Noonan asking which I need to start doing that. hehehe...

Just Do It.

Question: What process do you use when writing your weekly essays? What's your first step? Second step? Etc.? How do you develop your thesis statement? What problems do you frequently encounter?

Answer: I usually start by thinking of which three subtopics I can talk about. Then I find a way to incorporate that into a thesis statement and Then I just write in the order of the thesis statement while also looking for quotes that can help prove my argument. Then I change the thesis statement because I have a different idea on how to write the paper. Then I sleep (Thats the effect these papers have on me). Wake up. Then I eat ( I need Power food to survive the torture of writing the paper) Then I finish typing the paper.
The problems I usually have:
-Simply doing the paper.
-Thinking of literary terms for the thesis statement.
-Writing the thesis statement
-Organizing thoughts.
-Doing the paper the night before it is due.
-Staying awake to write the paper.

HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first impression on Mr. Bennet was he was a cool laid back guy. You can tell he dont like alot of attention but he is pretty sneaky the way he was acting about the situation. He is also a scarcastic person and I prefer his charcater. I like him more. Mrs.Bennet is an exciting, loud person. She also want to get her kids married so they can be taken care of.

Comment on Sara and Yari's post

Sara: I totally agree that he is a very interesting character in this book. I like what you said about first impressions it is very true and obvious. I hope we see more of how he really is and his true intentions :)

Yari: So I also like on how you compared both of these characters. Yet I do not agree on what you said about them both carrying for the future of ALL their daughters since it is clearly shown that they both have the favorite in the family.

Comment on crystal's blog

it seems like every parent has their favorite child. with me it was my brother Oscar who was the favorite, and i agree with what you said about who is mr. and mrs Bennet's favorite child

Mr. Bennet, man.

Mr. Bennet is a super chill guy that likes sarcasm and jokes. Mrs. Bennet is a very annoying and dramatic person in which i really could not stand since the beginning. She cares, in a way, abut her daughters getting married only so they won't end up poor. Mr. Bennet actually knows his daughters well enough to understand their attitudes and what man could or could not be good for them. Therefore, I pick Mr. Bennet all the way. in some cases first impressions should not be the way to judge people. but in this case it is more than obvious how to judge these two characters.

Well dont we all just love Mr.Bennet :)

So I see that we all like Mr.Bennet and his personality! I agree with that since he is the only one so far that seems normal. I feel like his first impression was ok but not in the way that he is rude to his wife, although this sarcasm does create a sense of humor in the book. I feel as if he believes he can treat his wife and daughters however he likes and feels like he is the one that has the only power in the household. Mrs. Bennet on the other hand is so #$%5@" annoying, the reason why I say this in the most humanly possible is because eventhough she wants the best for her daughters it seems like she only cares for Jane. In class we have mentioned that there is always the favorite one in the family, and Mrs. Bennet has that towards Jane but Mr. Bennet's favorite one is Lizzy but either way I like Mr. Bennet more :)

Impressions...?

The frist impressions of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet were totally different because they showed us a little glimpse of how they are on their first monologue. Mr. Bennet left the image of a playful, yet serious character. He could be described as a straight-to-the-point person. Unlike Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet seems desperate and annoying, but there's something good about her, which is the fact that her priority are her daughters. It even said it on the book that all her lifetime business was and is her five daughters. If I have to choose, I can't for the fact that both parents seem cool to me in their own ways, and even if they didn't express it at the beggining, they want the best for ALL of their daughters.

Comment for Diaz...

I have noticed that Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet can not communicate because they always disagree in many things. In which it tells me that back in that time many people were not in love because they were marry with the person who had money.

Comment for Crisss...

I agree with you but back in those days people just care about marrying a good man with alot of money in order to have a life.

I Prefer Mrs. Bennet...jk..jk

My first impression of Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet is that they do not actually care about how their daughters may be treated once they get marry. They do not care if they get sick just to get the man attention to get him in love especially Mrs. Bennet when she send Jane to Mr. Bringley house on horse back so Jane can get sick and she can stay over at Mr. Brinlgey house to get him in love and get marry. I prefer Mr. Bennet because his life is not like business to get his daughters marry with a man who has alot of money. Mr. Bennet shows a little more care for his daughters. He knows who is the smart one in the family, Elizabeth does not care guys that much like her other sisters. Mr. Bennet thinks Mr. Bringley should marry Elizabeth because she is not ignorant and silly her like sisters.

Friday, January 13, 2012

[INSERT CLEVER COMMENT HERE]

My first Impression of the two characters was that Mr. Bennet was a smart ass who likes to joke around nonchalantly with his wife. Mrs. Bennet is the type of person who is extremely shallow and Stupid. But in a way she means well when she tries so hard to marry off her daughters. My favorite character between the parents is Mr. Bennet. I like him because of the fact that he is a smart ass and very clever. He just seems like the person I can get along with.

Mr. Bennet is better!

My first impressions of Mr. Bennet is that he is one sneaky guy. He goes and visits Mr. Bingley with out anyone knowing. He reads a lot and can sometimes be rude. Mrs. Bennet is very annoying and slow. She is so desperate for her daughter Jane to marry a guy. Maybe she should do something useful instead of searching for a rich man for her daughter. she's annoying. I prefer Mr. Bennet because he is not annoying like his wife.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Q:What are your first impressions of Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet? Why? Which character do you prefer? Why?
A:My first impressions of Mr. Bennet are that he looks out for his daughters but not in the same way that most parents during this time period would. He thinks that his daughters do not really need a man to survive even though he knows that they do need to have a man to help them out financially. I think that Mrs. Bennet is to caught up on trying to marry her daughters especially Jane because she is the oldest but she isn't really focusing on her other daughters and what they want. Mrs. Bennet also seems to put aside Elizabeth and exposing Jane's beauty from any of her other daughters. I prefer Mr. Bennet because he seems like he is more interested in his daughters learning and reading even though it is rare for women to read during this time period.

Mr. Bennet :P

My first impression of Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet was that they seem to look at their daughters as items or business other then humans. They do not seem to communicate well with each other. I got this impression because in the beginning of the book Mr. Bennet did not tell Mrs. Bennet that he had already gone visit Mr. Bingley. The mothers goal or wish is to get all her daughters married. I prefer Mr. Bennet because he is realistic and sarcastic. He knows that his daughters need to get married, and when he is been sarcastic with his wife about that issue we know that he does care about his daughter finding a guy and getting married.
